The Ministry of Public Works (MOP) of Chile will officially launch the tender process for the concession of the last stretch of the Americo Vespucio ring road (AVO2) in July this year.

The total project investment is expected to reach US$800 million

The new stretch, which will run 40m under the east side of the city of Santiago de Chile, will link the urban areas of Peñalolen, Macul, La Reina and Ñuñoa below Ossa Avenue.

The project's scope encompasses the design, construction, finance, operation and maintenance of the last 5.2km of the Americo Vespucio Oriente highway. The project will involve the construction of two tunnels between Los Presidentes and Principe de Gales streets. The tolls for future users of the ring road is still under study.

According to sources the Ministry of Public Works expects to launch the tender in July and to award the project concession on the first semester of 2017. The construction is expected to begin in 2018 but this schedule could be modified according to the feasibility study.

The project is part of the 2014-2018 pipeline of concession projects that was announced in August 2014. The value of the concession projects is about US$7.95 billion.

In 2014, the consortium formed by OHL Concesiones and Sacyr Concesiones Chile submitted the best proposal for the first stretch of the Américo Vespucio Oriente highway concession.
