FDOT launches DBF tender for highway project

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) has issued a request for proposals (RFP) concerning the I-395 / SR 836 / I-95 reconstruction project.

The preferred bidder will be responsible for the development of three project components.

  • The complete reconstruction of the I-395 corridor from the I-95/Midtown Interchange to the MacArthur Causeway Bridge in the City of Miami Beach, approximately 1.4 miles.
  • The development of three thru lanes, and separate direct connections to I-95 northbound and SR 836. 
  • Other improvements include, ampong others: creating a structural signature bridge over Biscayne Boulevard; roadway and aesthetic lighting; drainage improvements; and ITS elements.

Additionally, the project involves two additional components: the I-95 pavement reconstruction project and the Miami-Dade expressway authority (MDX) 836.11 project.

The project has an estimated total construction cost of $800 million.

The project will be developed under the public private partnership (PPP) model on a design, build and finance (DBF) basis.

FDOT aims to award the project by early 2017. Interested parties must submit their letter of response (LOR) on or before April 20, 2016.
