Chile's Ministry of Public Works (MOP) plans to call a tender for the Américo Vespucio Oriente highway concession in Santiago during next weeks.
According to MOP's Head of Concessions, Carlos Plass, the US$940 million tender will be officially launched in August, to then be awarded in February 2014. There are fourteen companies pre-qualified to bid for the project.
The shortened highway will link El Salto (Huechuraba) with Príncipe de Gales avenue (La Reina) running for 9.3km in the city of Santiago.
The highway will have half the original budget of US$2 billion. In previous studies, the government planned to include a tunnel of 4km up to Rotonda Grecia.
According to local newspaper 24h Chile, the works will kick off by 2016 and the construction will be done by 2020.
