Merseylink preferred bidder for Mersey Birdge PFI project

Merseylink consortium, comprising Macquarie Capital Group Limited, Bilfinger Project Investments Europe Limited and FCC Construcción as project sponsors, has emerged as the preferred bidder for the Mersey Gateway PFI project in the UK.

According to the official release, FCC Construcción and Kier Infrastructure and Overseas Limited is the contractor for the project. Sanef, an Abertis subsidiary, is the toll road operator for the project. Sanef is an international motorway operator and a world leader in free-flow tolling.

The Project

The project entails a 30-year contract to design, build, finance and operate a new toll bridge over the River Mersey between Runcorn and Widnes, together with associated work in the towns.Its centrepiece is a new six-lane toll bridge over the River Mersey in north west England between the towns of Runcorn and Widnes. The existing Silver Jubilee Bridge will also be tolled as part of the project, which is expected to create new jobs, help secure inward investment to the area and deliver important regeneration benefits.

The estimated investment for the project is £600 million.
