The government of Brazil, through The Federal Court of Accounts (Tribunal de Contas da União), has approved the tender process for the Rodovia do Frango road concession.

Prior to the approval, the Federal Court of Accounts has evaluated several tender documents such as the highway operation program, the technical, economic and financial feasibility study and the environmental impact studies.

Previously, on February 4, Minister Armando Monteiro Neto, the president of Brazil's National Privatization Board (Conselho Nacional de Desestatização), approved the operational model for the road concession.

Rodovia do Frango comprises stretches of the BR-476/153/282/480/PR/SC between Paraná and Santa Catarina. The road section has approximately 400 km long.

The public private partnership (PPP) project will involve the upgrade, operation and maintenance of the road, which is expected to be tolled. The total project investment is estimated at R$4.5 billion (US$1.14 billion) and the concession contract will have a period of 30 years with an option to extend the concession period 30 years more.

Last month we reported that the Brazilian State of Paraná launched a request for expressions of interest to structure a road PPP project called "Complexo Viário do Litoral". The road PPP project is expected to include the upgrade, operation and maintenance of the PRC-101 road between Santa Catarina and São Paulo.

We have recently reported on several road PPP projects in America:
