Maldives launches tender for bridge PPP project

The Government of the Republic of Maldives represented by the Ministry of Economic Development (MED) has launched a tender to solicit Expressions of Interest from the private sector for the Male'-Hulhule bridge project.

The contract will include  the Design, Build, Finance, Maintenance, and Operation (DBFMO) of the infrastructure under a Public Private Partnership contract.

Expression of Interest must be sent electronically or in print by on/or before 14:00hrs (Local Time) 29th December 2013 to the Ministry of Economic Development Boduthakurufaanu Magu.

Minister Adheeb (Economic Council's co-chair) revealed that the government will also be providing the selected developers with the opportunity of investing in other business in the Maldives. He said that special privileges and incentives will be provided for the developers.

Primary objective of the Government is to bring a relief to the socio-economic issues arising from the urban congestion that is present in Malé. The project will also aim to improve the connectivity and mobility of the populations in the greater-Male' region and facilitate the development of Hulhumale' to its full potential.
