Macquarie expands global infrastructure debt team with US launch

Macquarie Infrastructure Debt Investment Solutions (MIDIS), part of Macquarie Asset Management, has announced the expansion of its business into the United States (US) with the appointment of Ariel Jankelson as Senior Vice President of MIDIS in New York City.

MIDIS’ infrastructure debt platform was first launched in 2012 from London and has subsequently built a significant presence across the UK and Europe. MIDIS has been awarded mandates in excess of US$4.4 billion globally, including through the first ever UK inflation-linked infrastructure debt fund.

Mr. Jankelson most recently worked for more than 10 years in Macquarie Capital’s project and infrastructure financing team. He has taken leadership roles on numerous high profile transactions in both Sydney and New York with debt structuring, arranging and advisory experience across the infrastructure, transportation, power, renewables and midstream energy sectors. He will be joined in New York City by Sunil Malhotra, a senior associate who relocates from the MIDIS investment team in London.

James Wilson, Co-Head of MIDIS, said:

“Our expansion into the US is in response to heightened demand from our insurance and pension fund clients to match their liabilities with long-dated, lower-risk and uncorrelated investments. As the world’s largest infrastructure investor, we have proven that infrastructure debt continues to provide just that. Macquarie Group’s existing scale, expertise and network of relationships will assist us in connecting this demand with the growing number of US-based infrastructure borrowers seeking flexible debt financing. With Ariel’s leadership, we look forward to expanding our global offering.”
