Kuwait seeks EOIs from investors for Az-Zour North IWPP Phase II

Kuwait, through the Partnership Technical Bureau (PTB) and in collaboration with the Ministry of Electricity and Water, is seeking Expressions of Interest  for executing the second Independent Water and Power Producer (IWPP) project located at Az-Zour North.

It is expected that the plant will have a guaranteed capacity of at least 1500 MW and 100 MIGD of desalinated water.

Power project in Kuwait

The project will be tendered in accordance with the laws of Kuwait in particular law 39/2010 and its amendments. The Project will benefit from an off-take agreement between the Project Company incorporated according to law 39/2010 and its amendments and the Ministry of Electricity and Water for a term up to forty years on a Build-Own-Transfer basis.

Interested parties are requested to send an email and a formal letter to PTB expressing their interest in the Project no later than 12:00 pm Kuwait Time on Thursday the 27th of June 2013 at the following address:

A consortium composed of International Power of GDF Suez (17.5%), Sumitomo (17.5%) and A.H. Al Sagar & Brothers (5%) is the preferred bidder to take a 40 % stake in the Phase I of the project. The project will be owned 10% by Kuwaiti public entities, 50% by Kuwaiti nationals (via an Initial Public Offering) and 40% by the consortium.
