The Partnerships Technical Bureau, the PPP agency of Kuwait, recently announced on February 19 that it would "shortly" be issuing an expression of interest (EOI) for the procurement as a public private partnership (PPP)  contract of the Integrated Rolling Stock and railway systems for all five phases of the Kuwait Metropolitan Rapid Transit System Project (KMRT) .
KMRT is being implemented by the Ministry of Communications under the auspices of PTB as per the PPP Law No.7/2008.
Other standard contracts are to be tendered for civil works and the operation of Phase 1, which includes 50 km of metro with 28 stations. The other four phases will be developed and constructed in future stages over the coming years as demand grows, said the statement.
UK-based team led by Ernst and Young is advising to the Ministry of Communications for the $7bn Kuwait metro project. The group also includes Atkins as technical adviser and Ashurst as legal adviser.
The feasibility prepared by the advisors recommended that the financing structure includes a government subsidy.
