Kandla Port launches RFQ for Tuna-Tekra port project in India

India's largest major port, Kandla Port Trust has launched a RFQ for setting up a container terminal at Tuna -Tekra near Kandla Port on build, operate and transfer  basis for container vessels having capacity up to 18000 twenty-foot equivalent units.

Phase 1 of the terminal (2 jetties) will be commissioned within 3 years of the start of construction (projected: October 2017). The remaining two phases will be constructed and commissioned subsequently by taking 2 years for each phase.

On 6 May 2013, three consortia submitted their expressions of interest. InfraPPP understands that DP World, Dinesh Chandra Agrawal Infracon Pvt. Ltd, Samsung C&T Corporation and United Liner Agencies of India (Pvt.) Ltd are among the companies that have expressed interest in the project.

The deadline for submissions of qualification documents is September 21st, 2013.

The project

Kandla Port Trust is planning to set up a container terminal at Tuna-Tekra on build, operate and transfer basis for container vessels having capacity up to 18000 twenty-foot equivalent units.

The project will be developed on public private partnership basis with 30 years of concession period for the operator and the estimated value of the project is US$420 million (Rs 3,000 crores).

The Tuna-Tekra area is about 10 km south of the existing Tuna port, which is well connected to National Highway 8A through two-lane road. It is proposed to be widened to six-lane in a phased manner. Within the next one year, Tuna port will also be connected through broad gauge rail. The project has already been awarded to Western Railway.
