John Laing signs Cambridge Biomedical Campus project

Cambridge University Hospitals  and John Laing have signed contracts to deliver the Forum project on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus.

On 1 May 2013 John Laing was selected as the preferred partner for the project.

The Forum, which will be designed by global architecture practice NBBJ, will comprise a new post-graduate medical education centre, a private hospital and a hotel and conference centre.

The estimated cost of the project is £120 million.

With the signing of the contract, a joint venture between Cambridge University Hospitals and John Laing has been formed. The partners are now working to finalize the funding and operational plan for the project, and securing planning permission.

Construction of the development will be carried out by Laing O'Rourke and it is planned that the private hospital will be run by Ramsay Health Care UK. The post-graduate medical education centre will be managed by Cambridge University Hospitals.

The Forum development on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus (CBC) will include a private hospital, a hotel, a new car park, shops and restaurants.

Subject to planning permission, building work is planned to start in summer 2014 and will be completed in time for a formal opening in summer 2016. Cambridge University Hospitals will grant a long-term lease on the land it owns but will retain the freehold.
