IO awards DBF health contract

Sheridan College and Infrastructure Ontario (IO) have awarded a fixed-price contract to Sheridan Creative Partnership to design, build and finance Phase II of the Sheridan College Hazel McCallion Campus development in Mississauga, Ontario (Canada).

The contract between Sheridan Creative Partnership and Sheridan College is for CAD$67.3 million. Payment will be made by the province and Sheridan College at substantial completion in summer 2016.

The consortium members include Bondfield Construction Company Limited (developer and construction), Moriyama & Teshima Architects/Montgomery Sisam Architects (Architects) and Rocklynn Capital Inc. (Financial Advisors). The selection of the Sheridan Creative Partnership team is the result of an open, fair and competitive procurement process that began in January 2013.

The 220,000 square-foot facility will accommodate up to 3,200 additional full-time students, for a total enrolment of approximately 5,500 students. Highlights of the expansion project include space for faculty and administrative offices, 31 new classrooms, 29 new studios, labs and production spaces, and a creative campus complex that consists of:

  • a central learning and collaborative meeting space known as the Creativity Commons;
  • research and leadership centres such as the Institute for Creativity; and
  • a gallery space to showcase student creativity and innovation.

Sheridan is one of Canada's leading post-secondary institutions, enrolling over 18,000 full-time students in over 100 diploma, certificate, and bachelor degree programs on four campuses in three cities. Its 133,000 alumni continue to shape the future course of our society in the arts, in business, and in the fields of technology and community service.
