Infrastructure Australia appoints interim Coordinator

Infrastructure Partnerships Australia has announced that John Fitzgerald has been appointed as the interim Infrastructure Coordinator.

The agency said that his appointment is strongly supported by the national infrastructure sector and gives the agency a substantially enhanced level of depth and experience.

IPA Chief Executive, BrendanLyon, said:

"John Fitzgerald is one of the most experienced public administrators in the infrastructure sector, and his interim appointment will substantially increase the level of skill and impact from Infrastructure Australia."

"Mr Fitzgerald's experience in finance and his more than decade-long role leading the development of Victoria's infrastructure policy frameworks within that State's Treasury, mean that he is an ideal appointment to lead Infrastructure Australia."

John Fitzgerald wrote the national PPP guidelines and has been at the leading edge of infrastructure project delivery and procurement reform.

John Fitzgerald will work together with new Chairman, Mark Birrell.

The agency said the industry welcomes the appointment and they hope to see Mr Fitzgerald at the helm as the permanent Chief Executive, once the new legislation emerges from the Parliament.

Mr Fitzgerald was a Specialist Advisor to KPMG on the infrastructure and government sectors. He is also a member on the Boards of several infrastructure corporations.

Before September 2011 Mr Fitzgerald was a Deputy Secretary, Commercial Division, at the Victorian Department of Treasury and Finance.

Earlier, Mr Fitzgerald held senior management positions with PricewaterhouseCoopers, AIDC, Deutsche Bank and the Commonwealth Bank. He has 30 years of commercial and financial experience in infrastructure, project finance, property finance, securitisation and debt capital markets.
