Food Corporation of India (FCI) has announced plans to set up silos with about two million tonne capacity through a public private partnership (PPP) project, in the next two years.
FCI is expected to launch the next month a tender process to develop the new facilities. The project involves the development of four 50,000 tones capacity silos and a 25,000 tones grain capacity silo.
The project will be located in one of the following locations: Sahnewal and Kotkapura in Punjab, Narela in Delhi, Katihar in Bihar, and Changsari in Assam.
The project will be developed on a design, build, finance, operate and transfer (DBFOT) basis. FCI will provide the land for carrying out the project.
FCI has also plans to develop similar projects in other 11 locations: Changsari (Assam), Pune (Maharashtra), White-field & Bellary (Karnataka), Narela (Delhi), Kila Raipur, Kotkapura, Sahnewal & Patiala (Punjab), Buxar & Katihar (Bihar). The firm has already conducted feasiblity studies for these projects.
