The Government of Piauí, a state in Brazil, has plans to launch a BRL1.7 billion (US$490 million) tender for the waterworks PPP for Teresina this month.
In early December the government presented the sub-concession of potable water supply and sewage collection and treatment services. In January the bidding process for the sub-concession was suspended, but it is expected to be re-opened soon.
Teresina, the capital of Piauí, is currently served by Agespisa, which is an state owned water and sewage firm. The city has 98% potable water coverage and approximately 247,000 households receive piped water. Additionally, the capital has a 18% sewerage service coverage, which represents that about 35,000 homes have sewerage collection services.
According to sources, six companies have already showed interest in the project, such as Odebrecht Ambiental, Grupo Acciona Agua Brasil and India's Three D Management Services PVT, among others.
