iCON Infrastructure III acquires stake in Italian port terminal operator

iCON Infrastructure III has acquired a 45% stake in Gruppo Spinelli, a container terminal and logistics business headquartered in Genoa, Italy.

The business, with a turnover of €75 million (US$83.5 million), consists of a port container terminal in the Port of Genoa and an associated network of container depots, warehousing and logistics facilities located across Northern Italy.

In 2014, Gruppo Spinelli handled over 366,000 TEUs at its 145,200 m² container terminal, in Genoa. In addition, Gruppo Spinelli operates a network of off dock and inland container depots with a total area of 541,000m2, and its container logistics business transports over 220,000 containers each year.

iCON is an independent investment group, focusing on privately held investments in infrastructure assets in Europe and North America. Since its establishment in 2004, iCON's team has been responsible for the deployment of over €2.5 billion of capital into infrastructure enterprises with a total capitalisation of €10 billion.

In May 2015, iCON Infrastructure announced the first and final closing of a new €800 million (US$896 million) fund, iCON Infrastructure Partners III, L.P. (iCON III).
