The partnership between the London Borough of Harrow and Wates Residential has approved 149 new family homes, including council homes, as phase one of the Byron Quarter development.
The 800-home regeneration project in Harrow will begin with the first phase, delivering 149 homes on the long-vacant site of a former driving school. The development aims to provide affordable housing and public spaces across two key locations: the old driving school in Wealdstone South and the former Civic Centre headquarters on Station Road. The first phase of the Byron Quarter development focuses on the former driving school site, previously used for minibus parking by the council. It will include 149 new homes, with 44 designated as affordable. The housing mix consists of a six-story apartment block with 78 units and 71 terraced houses with two and three bedrooms. Of the affordable homes, 10 will be available at social rent, while 34 will be offered through shared ownership. Affordable housing will make up 27% of the total units.
Construction work is expected to start on-site in mid-2025, with the first residents anticipated to move into new homes by autumn 2026.
