The Government of Haryana, a North Indian state surrounding New Delhi, and the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), the responsible for the development, maintenance and management of the Indian highways, have recently announced that they are about to sign an agreement for the Delhi-Gurgaon personal rapid transit system PPP.
The system will have a route length of approximately 12.3 kilometers connecting the Delhi Haryana Border with the Rajiv Chowk, Gurgaon & Sohna Road in Gurgaon.
The project will be developed under the PPP model on design, build, finance, operation and transfer (DBFOT) basis. The estimated investment for the project is Rs 850 crore (US$125.7 million).
The PRT project will use automatically-driven small vehicles to carry up to five passengers. The average speed of the vehicles is 60 km/h. A total of 16 stations have been planned for this first pilot project.
The project was tendered in March this year, and the deadline for interested parties to submit their qualification documents was on May 2.
Additionally, according to local sources, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has plans to develop other projects in the state of Haryana, as a link bypass to connect National Highway-8 with Mehrauli-Gurgaon Road of Gurgaon.
