Guatemalan PPP agency to tender US$120mn passenger train concession in 2014

According to local sources, the Guatemala's national agency for the development of economic infrastructure (ANADIE) is planning to tender a US$120 million concession for line 1 of Guatemala City's passenger train in 2014.

ANADIE will launch a tender for the technical, legal and financial studies. In fact, in association with Spain's national rail company (Renfe) a pre-feasibility study has already been carried out.

The winning bidder will recover its investment from passenger fees and there will be a minimum traffic guaranteed.

The project:

The 30km train line will run from the north to the south of the capital, using an existing rail line that has been out of order for the past ten years. The project consists of the purchase of new train wagons and rehabilitation of the existing line.

ANADIE is also considering a tender for construction of a second 20km train line that will run east to west across the city.
