Greece signs four PPP projects in December 2014

The Greek Special PPP Secretariat announced on December 29th the signature of four PPP projects: the Athenas metro electronic ticket system and three broadband network projects.

One of the the PPP contracts was signed for the electronic ticket system by the Athens Urban Transport Organization and the Special Purpose Vehicle «HELLAS SMART TICKET» founded by the private partner LG CNS-ΤΕRNA ENERGY.

A unique project for the modernization of the Athens Urban Transport Organization is now entering the implementation phase.The project concerns the implementation of an integrated automatic fare collection system (electronic ticket system) through a PPP.

The bidder will undertake the funding, design, installation, operations support, maintenance and technical management of the system for 12 years and will be repaid during operation, through a payment mechanism based on continuous assessment of the quality of services provided. The total project cost is approximately €70 million. The contract lasts 12 years and is expected to be delivered gradually during 2015-2016.

Three of the PPP contracts were signed for the rural broadband development project in Greece - lot 1, 2 ad 3.

The projects' goal is the installation and operation of necessary infrastructure for broadband internet access, in order to achieve digital convergence of the most disadvantaged rural areas of Greece with the rest of the country.

Broadband Lot 1:

The project will provide faster internet in 1,192 settlements with a total population of 170,961 inhabitants.

It was awarded to the Special Purpose Vehicle « OTE-RURAL NORTH » founded by the private partner «ÎŸÎ¤Î•».

The network development and maintenance cost is approximately €70 million while the investment operational cost is approximately €130 million. The total duration of the contract is 17 years.

Broadband Lot 2:

The project will provide faster internet in 1,867 settlements with a total population of 185,635 inhabitants.

It was awarded to the Special Purpose Vehicle « RURAL CONNECT » founded by the private partner « INTRAKAT- INTRACOM HOLDINGS - HELLAS ONLINE».

The network development and maintenance cost is approximately €100 million while the investment operational cost is approximately €170 million. The total duration of the contract is 17 years.

Broadband Lot 3:

The project will provide faster internet in 2,026 settlements with a total population of 169,360 inhabitants.

It was awarded to the Special Purpose Vehicle « OTE-RURAL SOUTH » founded by the private partner «ÎŸÎ¤Î•».

The network development and maintenance cost is approximately €94 million while the investment operational cost is approximately €160 million. The total duration of the contract is 17 years.

The three projects will be funded by EU funds, while the private partners will cover the operational costs.
