Greece launches tender for Epirus waste PPP project

The Greek Special PPP Secretariat has launched an Invitation for Expressions of Interest for the implementation of waste management facilities in the region of Epirus through a PPP, with the Region of Epirus acting as contracting authority. The deadline for the submission of expressions of interest is May 28th, 2013.

The private partner will be selected through an international public tender with the competitive dialogue process and will undertake the design, financing, construction, maintenance and operation of the waste management facilities in the Epirus Region, for a tenor of 27 years. The facilities will have capacity to process about 150.000 tons of waste annually, including the total of solid municipal waste produced in the Region of Epirus.

As in all waste management PPP tender competitions in Greece, the process allows all available technologies that cover the environmental targets, European and Greek legislation, fostering healthy competition among the bidders and facilitating the selection of the optimal solution.

The lowest fee to be paid by the users will constitute the main selection criterion, while meeting all environmental goals. The projects will utilize funds provided by the European Union's structural funds for the co-financing of the construction costs by 40-60%.
