Gipuzkoa to tender waste-to-energy concession

The government of Gipuzkoa, Spain, has recently approved legal changes to launch a tender process to develop a waste-to-energy plant through the PPP model.

Located in Zubieta, the project will comprise the construction, finance, operation and maintenance of a waste to energy plant with capacity to treat approximately 200,000 tones per year.

The total project investment is estimated at €200 million (US$223.5 million).

The project is expected to be awarded by September this year and construction works are scheduled to begin in early 2017.

Gipuzkoa  is a province of Spain and a historical territory of the autonomous community of the Basque Country. With a total area of 1,980 square kilometers, Gipuzkoa is the smallest province of Spain. The province has 89 municipalities and a population of about 720,000 inhabitants.
