According to local sources, the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ghana has plans to rehabilitate the Accra Sports Stadium through the public private partnership (PPP) model.
The government has already submitted a proposal on the PPP rehabilitation project to the Public Investment Division of the Ministry of Finance, which has already given the green light to the project. Additionally, the Ministry of Youth and Sports has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with a private partner.
The total project investment is estimated at GH12 million (US$3 million), while the government budget for the project is GH1.5 million.
The Accra Sports Stadium, officially named the Ohene Djan Stadium, is a multi-use, 40,000 all-seater stadium in Accra. Ghana mostly uses the asset for association football matches.
As a designated venue of some of the 2008 African Cup of Nations matches, the stadium was rebuilt, upgraded and modernized to meet FIFA standards. Work on the stadium was completed in October 2007.
