Freshfields appoints Head of Infrastructure and Transport Group

Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer has appointed Martin Nelson-Jones as co-head of the firm's infrastructure and transport sector group (ITG). Martin, who will lead ITG alongside Brussels-based antitrust partner Alan Ryan, will begin his four-year term on 1 March. He follows Hamburg-based corporate partner Nils Koffka whose tour has come to an end.

Martin joined the firm in 1991 and became partner in 2001. He has advised on many major deals in the sector, including MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company in the $1.9 billion sale of a stake in its terminals division and the Saltaire consortium's £3 billion takeover of Kelda Group (Yorkshire Water).Commenting on his appointment, Martin said:

'Our infrastructure and transport sector group helps clients involved in the procurement, construction, operation and acquisition or disposal of infrastructure and transport assets all over the world. The group combines our legal and sector expertise to benefit our clients. I am very excited to have the chance to lead our team alongside Alan.'

Commenting on the appointment Freshfields' Senior Partner, Will Lawes, said:

'Martin is an exceptional corporate lawyer with a wealth of experience in advising clients in the infrastructure and transport space. He is an ideal candidate to lead this important sector group with Alan. We are also extremely grateful to Nils for his outstanding contribution in the role.'

Martin was educated at Trinity College, Oxford and his areas of practice include mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures and other corporate transactions all around the world.
