Four Turkish companies win highway BOT projects

Two consortia composed by Turkish companies have emerged as winners for the construction of two sections of the Northern Marmara Motorway (NMM) project in Istanbul tendered by the Turkey's General Directorate for Highways.

The projects will be developed under the build-operate-transfer (BOT) model. The preferred bidders will be responsible for the design, build, finance, operation and maintenance (DBFOM) of the road sections during the concession period.

The NMM will bypass the city of Mamara and cross the Bosphorus to the north of Istanbul. The tender processes for the two projects were launched in late October 2014.

  • NMM Kurtköy - Akyazi section PPP project, whose total investment is estimated at US$2 billion;
  • NMM Kinali - Odayeri section PPP project, whose project investment is estimated at US$2 billion.

Kolin Construction and Kalyon Group have won the tender process involving the development of the European section of the road, while Limak Holding and Cengiz Holding have won the tender to build the Asian section of the motorway project.

A total of eight consortia bid for the two separate packages for the European section and the Asian section in early May.
