Four teams shortlisted for Takoradi dry bulk terminal project

The Ghana Ports & Harbours Authority (GPHA) has shortlisted four teams to participate in the next stage of the tender process for the Takoradi dry bulk terminal project.

The shortlisted firms are:

  • Grindrod Ltd – South Africa
  • Marsa Maroc – Morocco
  • Sea-Invest Corporation – Belgium
  • Transnet SOC Ltd – South Africa

As we reported in May, GPHA launched the Request for Expresion of Interest (EOI) on May11th and the deadline for submitting proposals was June 30th. Twenty seven individual firms and several joint ventures showed interest for the project and nine of them  responded to the Request for Expression of Interest.

GPHA started the Takoradi Port Expansion Program in 2014 which included the extension of the breakwater, the deepening of the access channel and port basin, and the construction of the infrastructure for the Dry Bulk Terminal.

The concession seeks to achieve the following principal objectives:

  • Introduce an independent Terminal Operator into the Port of Takoradi to handle bulk ore cargo for a variety of entities and cargo owners and to generate the necessary incentives for the rapid development of traditional ore mines to the benefit of the Ghanaian economy.
  • Increase the bulk ore cargo throughput capacity and the operational efficiency of the Port of Takoradi, in particular for the sustenance of guaranteed volumes and services within the sub-cluster.
