According to Spanish newspaper Expansion, the Spanish government is close to an agreement with failed highway concessionaires and creditors. The source has confirmed that the government will become the majority shareholder in the concessionaires. Before, the government has to agree with 75 % of the pool of financiers and bring the concessions back from bankruptcy. However there is not time to lose because in April the first concessionaire would enter into liquidation and would revert to the government. The asset in danger would be the Madrid-Toledo highway concession.
The current concessions which filed for bankruptcy are the following: Radial R3-R5 in Madrid, Radial 4 in Madrid, Ocaña-La Roda highway, Madrid-Toledo highway and Cartagena-Vera highway.
This 'light' nationalization would be the solution from the Ministry headed by Ana Pastor against the problem insolvent concessions in Spain.
