Italy has published the first amendment to the New Public Contracts Code in the Italian official Gazette.
One year ago, the Italian Government adopted the Legislative Decree no. 50/2016 to implement the European Directives no. 2014/23/EU, 2014/24/EU and 2014/25/EU, known as the New Public Contracts Code.
The Legislative Decree 19 April 2017 n. 56 is aimed at amending a substantial number of provisions and is intended to simplify the public contracts legislative framework.
Its main scope is to boost the public procurement sector, especially in the construction and large infrastructures field, which represents quite a relevant share in the Country GDP.
The original version of the Code was widely criticized by commentators and stakeholders, with a first revision made in summer 2016 deemed incomplete and unfit for purpose.
