Colombia's national infrastructure agency ANI has announced it has approved financial closure for the Cesar-La Guajira highway project.
The financial closure was achieved through commitments by Bancolombia.
In May 2015, ANI awarded the project to the firm Construcciones El Cóndor, which is responsible for the design, upgrade, build, operation and maintenance of the road.
The 350.3 km road will link San Roque in Cesar department and Cuestecitas in La Guajira department. These two regions are the largest coal producers in the country. Cesar is located in the north of the country, in the Caribbean region, bordering to the north with the Department of La Guajira. The road will also will provide access to the Venezuelan border.
As part of the fourth generation (4G) highway concessions, the Cesar-Guarija project is the fourth private sector project to accredit financial closure with the ANI.
ANI president Luis Fernando Andrade, said:
"With the Cesar-Guajira private sector initiative, road safety will be strengthened, commercial relations will be improved and travel time will be reduced. This project is definitely another incentive for increased productivity in the region and will allow the number of tourists in the area to be boosted."
