Financial advisor to be sought for UK crematorium PPP

Newtownabbey Borough Council has plans to launch a tender process to appoint a financial advisor for a Crematorium PPP project in Newtownabbey, Northern Ireland.

The financial advisor will support the council during the PPP process. A & L Goodbody, a law firm, has already been appointed to advise the council.

The project involves the design, build, finance, operation and maintenance of a new crematorium facility for a 25 year term post-construction. The new facilities will be located opposite the theatre and leisure centre on the Doagh Road.

The tender process to select a preferred bidder for the project is scheduled to be issued by August this year.

A report presented during the Community Planning Committee's monthly meeting explained:

"The contract for operating the facility will be at least 25 years and members will appreciate that the contract, if set up correctly, will not only provide a high class service to ratepayers but also has the potential to generate income over that period. The appointment of a financial advisor will ensure that the council's interests are protected through the procurement process and the contract period."

Newtownabbey is a Borough north of Belfast in County Antrim, Northern Ireland. It is separated from the city by the M2 motorway. Largely a residential area, the borough is also home to many engineering and computer industries.
