Final stage of Sydney light rail PPP project opens
The final stage of Sydney light rail PPP project, the new L3 Kingsford Line between Circular Quay and Kingsford, has been opened to the public. The line completes the 12-km Central Business District (CBD) and South East Light Rail project and runs from Circular Quay to Kingsford.
The first line of the project (L2 Randwick Line) was opened in December last year.
The opening of the new line provides public transport for workers and the community in the southeast as it services the important health precinct and the city.
Transport for NSW is focused on ensuring customers who need to undertake essential travel have options available to them. South East bus services will continue unchanged in the short term.
Operations will be fine-tuned over a period of time as the L3 Kingsford Line is integrated with the L2 Randwick Line and while services are bedded down.
The PPP project was delivered on finance, design, construction, operation and maintenance basis by ALTRAC Light Rail consortium composed of Transdev, Alstom, Acciona and Capella Capital. John Laing, First State Super and Acciona Concessiones were equity investors in the project. The project is valued at AUD 2.1 billion (USA 1.3 billion).

Refinancing completed for AUD1.6bn bypass in Australia

Builders seek to terminate $4.5bn contract in Australia
Project owners of West Gate Tunnel PPP project in Melbourne, Transurban, have notified Australian Securities Exchange that the builders on their AUD 6.7 billion (USD 4.5 billion) project - CPB Contractors and John Holland are seeking to terminate their contract. The request is based on the fact that dangerous PFAS contaminants were found in the soil and they constitute a “Force Majeure Termination Event.”

ACCIONA to construct waste-to-energy in Australia
ACCIONA is to construct a waste-to-energy (WTE) plant in East Rockingham (Western Australia), the country’s second large-scale WTE plant, in a contract worth AUD 511 million (USD 354 million). Once completed, it will treat around 300,000 tons of waste every year, preventing more than 300,000 tons of CO2 equivalent per annum - the pollution generated by around 64,000 cars.

AUD2.9bn Light Rail line opens in Australia
The owners of AUD 2.9 billion (USD 2 billion) Sydney Light Rail project announced the opening of the project´s first phase to the public. The opening took place on December 14, 2019. Randwick Line is the 12km route, connecting the Central Business District (CBD) to the wider city, and taking passengers from Circular Quay to Randwick, via the CBD, Central Station and Moore Park. The line features 19 stations.
