Everbright wins Vietnam's Can Tho Waste-to-energy BOO Project

China Everbright International Limited  has won the bid for Vietnam's Can Tho Waste-to-energy PPP Project, and has officially tapped into the solid waste integrated treatment market in Southeast Asia. Everbright International will build Vietnam's first waste-to-energy project which will implement technologies for the harmless treatment, reduction and reuse of household waste.

Can Tho Project will be constructed under BOO (Build-Operate-Own) model, commanding a total investment of approximately US47$ million. The Project is designed to have a daily household waste processing capacity of 400 tonnes and will be equipped with a 7.5MW power generator. It is expected to generate approximately 60,000,000 kWh of electricity annually.

Can Tho, which is one of Vietnam's five directly-controlled municipalities, is the largest city in the Mekong Delta with a population of around 1.2 million.

Mr. Chen Xiaoping, CEO of Everbright International, said:

"By adhering to our development strategy of 'from Coastal Areas to Inland Cities, from Cities to Rural Areas and from Domestic to Overseas Markets' and in the spirit of the Chinese government's 'One Belt One Road' initiative, Everbright International was able to secure the Can Tho Project. This was down to our overall strength which allows us to leverage our advantages, utilize advanced technology, ensure state-of-the-art management and build a harmonious coexistence between our operating projects and neighboring communities. The Project is the Group's first overseas waste-to-energy project and we will not only be involved in the construction and operation of the Project, but we will also be able to introduce our environmental technologies and core equipment abroad."

Mr. Chen continued:

"Can Tho project is the Group's second 'go global' project after we acquired a waste treatment company in Poland. We will build upon our strengths in technology and equipment development as well as our ability to invest to seize market opportunities, and we will tap into new markets by catering to the environmental protection demands and goals of different countries. We will actively promote the acquisition of new meaningful projects and technologies."
