EUR 330 million French port concession launched

On March 28, a public notice of competition was published by the city to inform potential candidates of the main characteristics and encourage them to form a multidisciplinary group to apply. The concession includes the design, construction, and financing of the works, as well as the operation of the port. The concessionaire will be remunerated by means of fees collected from users. The concession will be for a maximum duration of 25 years.

The concessionaire will have to ensure the realization of the principal investments allowing the extension and the protection of the body of water as well as the creation of new medians and the development of the terrestrial spaces for the corresponding nautical activities (dry port, technical zone, refueling, etc.) and the needs of port users (services, shops, parking lots, pathways, etc.). It will have to take care of all the administrative authorizations related to the project and, if necessary, request the transfer of the existing administrative authorizations to its benefit while taking over all or part of the obligations of the municipality.

The previous procedure of delegation of public service carried out between 2013 and 2017 for the realization of the works of extension and the exploitation of the port in the form of a concession did not succeed, and the townhall had launched studies to optimize the Porto Neo project in compliance with the environmental authorizations obtained and to relaunch the PSD procedure. The capacity of the port will increase from 350 to 1097 places.
Through the port extension project, the City wishes to:
  • improve the reception capacity and reinforce Porto-Vecchio's emergent position in regional sailing and the Tyrrhenian maritime route by integrating the pole of excellence "sailing and yachting in Corsica";
  • offer boating professionals a development tool adapted to their dynamism;
  • enable related and port-related activities to develop the commercial offer and reach the critical mass that transforms seasonal employment into permanent employment;
  • protect the environment: put an end to wild moorings (up to 350 per day), implement innovative solutions (conversion of rainwater to raw water, use of renewable energies).
With this optimized project which remains faithful to the initial objectives, the municipality of Puerto Vecchio confirms its will to carry out an extension of the marina and fishing port which responds to the economic, environmental, social and financial plans to the interests of Porto-Vecchio.
