The European Investment Bank (EIB) has recently revealed that it is considering financing the A14 Vilnius - Utena highway PPP project, which was approved by the Ministry of Transport and Communications of the Republic of Lithuania in December 2015.
The total project investment is estimated at €80 million (US$88.9 million). The proposed EIB financing has not been disclosed.
The project's scope encompasses the design and reconstruction of 58.1 km of the Vilnius - Utena (A14) highway and the operation and maintenance of up to a total of 72.15 km.
The PPP contract will be for a period of 13 years, including the construction period of up to 3 years. Upon completion, Vilnius-Utena highway will be the biggest PPP project in the road sector in Lithuania as well as Baltic states.
The road is located in a convergence region and forms part of the comprehensive TEN-T network. Socioeconomic benefits are mainly expected from improved and more reliable journey times.
