Egypt to continue with PPP projects in spite of political instability

Egypt will continue with its public-private partnership (PPP) infrastructure projects in spite of the current political instability in the country. As it is known, Egypt's military removed former President Mohamed Morsi from office in early July following widespread popular demonstrations demanding the resignation of the Muslim Brotherhood Party leader.

However, local sources have informed that the PPP unit has finished preparing tender documents for Abu Rawash wastewater treatment plant. Four consortiums qualified for the project, and the PPP unit has agreed to give them more time to prepare their technical and financial offers.

Atir Hannoura, head of the ministry's PPP Unit, said on July 12:

"The Ministry of Finance will not change the timetable of tendering the Abu Rawash Wastewater Treatment Plant project, which will be implemented according to a PPP scheme. The current political turbulence will not affect PPP projects."

Hannoura also revealed that his PPP Unit will be transferred from the Finance Ministry to the Ministry of Investment.
