Some days ago I wrote about the winning consortium for New Cairo waste water treatment plant reaching financial close to fund the project.Today I want to talk about two new projects that are set to see light in 2010 in Egypt.
1. Alexandria hospitalsThe Egyptian goverment has sent tender documents to 10 pre-qualified consortia for the new Alexandria university hospitals, one of the country's pilot PPP projects. The consortia have about three and a half months to bid for the 20-year contract.IFC (financial), Mott Macdonald (technical) and Trowers & Hamlins (legal) are advising the government.
2. Rod El Farag highway PPPThe Rod El Farag project involves construction, operation and maintenance. It will connect the existing Cairo Ring Road with the Cairo to Alexandria Desert Highway. The road is 34 kilometres long and involves two bridges across the River Nile.As you can see the egyptian PPP law is bringing out projects that were making noise already a couple of years ago. We'll have to wait to see if these projects follow the right path and get the final bid stages.
