The Egyptian Ministry of Sport announced, during the 2nd Annual Egypt PPP investment Summit that took place in Cairo on March 31st, that it plans to establish five sport cities through the public private partnership model in different governorates.

Mostafa Azzam, head of the investment unit at the Ministry of Sport, stated that the Minister of Sport would like to forge partnerships with the private sector.

He talked about the sports excellence centre that will be established in the 6th of October City, a US$90 million investment that will include football pitches and other sports buildings. The centre will also host the first stadium in west Cairo, costing $800 million.

The five sport cities and international sport development centres will also be built in Sharm Al-Sheikh, Hurghada, Aswan, Luxor and Al-Arish.

Egypt currently has several PPP projects in tender stage. This month the Red Sea Ports Authority (RSPA), a subsidiary of Egypt's ministry of transportation, launched two tender processes for PPP projects, the Safaga Port project and the Eltoor Port project. Alexandria Port Authority also launched a tender process for Alexandria's third container terminal.
