EDCO signs DBF contract for York Viva Bus Rapid Transit Expansion PPP

EDCO has achieved financial close and been awarded a CA$333 million contract to Design, Build and Finance the next phase of the dedicated York Viva Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) rapidways along the Highway 7 transit corridor in the City of Vaughan and Town of Richmond Hill, in the Ontario region of York

EDCO is a joint venture of EllisDon Capital Inc. and Coco Paving Inc.. The consortium is supported by EDCO Construction: a Design-Build joint venture of EllisDon Civil Ltd. and Coco Paving Inc., and a Design Team of IBI Group, LEA Consulting Ltd. and Peto MacCallum Ltd.

The EDCO team brings together expertise in design, construction and financing, and strong understanding of the local community. EllisDon, the joint venture lead, has extensive experience working on complex, multi-disciplinary, high profile projects, and has been involved in the previous phases of the vivaNext project initiative since it began 12 years ago. Coco Paving is one of Ontario's largest vertically integrated heavy civil construction contractors with self-performing capabilities.

The scope of work includes approximately 12 kilometres of rapidways, 10 new vivastations, bridge widenings, culvert extensions and enhanced boulevards, along the existing Highway 7 transit corridor. The first segment will extend from Helen Street to Interchange Way/Edgeley Boulevard, and the second segment from the Centre Street and Highway 7 intersection to Yonge Street via the existing Centre Street and Bathurst Street route. VivaNext rapidways are being built along 34 kilometres of key York Region corridors and will include a total of 38 new vivastations.

In achieving Financial Close, EDCO, Metrolinx, in partnership with York Region Rapid Transit Corporation (YRRTC), has concluded its contract negotiations, and reached an agreement on project conditions. This initiative is part of the York Viva BRT project which represents a $1.4 billion transit investment from the Government of Ontario, and is part of Metrolinx's Regional Transportation Plan. The project is being implemented by Metrolinx, an agency of the Province of Ontario. Visit metrolinx.com or  vivanext.com for more information.
