DLA Piper appoints two new Finance & Projects partners in Sydney

Global law firm DLA Piper has appointed two new Finance & Projects partners, Alex Regan and Simon Huxley, to its Sydney office.

Alex Regan commences today, Monday 18 April, from Corrs Chambers Westgarth where he was partner.

Alex has extensive experience in private equity and leveraged and acquisition finance, and also in distressed investing and project finance.

Co-Head of Finance & Projects in Australia Onno Bakker said:

"Alex's strong track record in leveraged finance and project finance, both in Australia and across the Asia Pacific region, represents a perfect fit for our multi-jurisdictional practice. We're pleased to welcome him to our growing team."

Alex said:

"DLA Piper’s private equity team is now one of the strongest in the Australian market, coming off transactions such as Link, Australia’s largest IPO in 2015. I am thrilled to have the opportunity to add some further leveraged finance expertise to this top tier private equity capability.”

Simon Huxley joins DLA Piper effective Monday 9 May, from Allen & Overy. Simon specialises in the development, project financing and acquisition of large infrastructure, energy and power projects.

He has extensive experience advising on mining and resources projects, social and economic infrastructure projects, emission reduction projects and carbon trading, and traditional and renewable power projects (including generation and transmission facilities).

Co-Head of Finance & Projects in Australia John Gallagher said:

"Simon has worked extensively throughout Australia and the Asia Pacific region and his expertise and insights will add significant value to our team, and strengthen our ability to meet all of our clients' needs."

Simon is looking forward to joining DLA Piper's Finance & Projects team and is excited by the opportunity to capitalise on the firm's unparalleled platform throughout Australia and the region.

Their joining comes at a busy time for the Australian Finance & Projects team, having recently advised St.George Bank on the financing for the acquisition of a hotel and resort portfolio across Australia, as well as financing aspects of Australia's largest IPO of 2015 for Link Group. On the projects side, the team has been advising on large-scale landmark projects including the Queens Wharf development in Brisbane.
