Delta state to concession water project

The Delta State Government in Nigeria has announced that it is to concession a water supply project through a Public Private Partnership (PPP).

The Warri-Effurun Water Supply PPP Project, with an approximate investment of US$70 million, will produce 68,000 cubic meters of water per day and supply treated water to 30,000 households. The concession period is for 12 years.

Delta Water Resources Commissioner, Fidelis Tilije said that a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) had been signed with a private investor, AG GoldTrust Limited, and that the agreement would soon be ratified by the House of Assembly.

The agreement will see the investor putting in NGN13 billion into executing the project that will be carried out in two parts including the project development period of 18 months.

The project was initiated23 years ago, inherited from the Bendel State

The provision of increased portable drinking water will directly cause reduction in the incidence of water-related diseases.

Tilije stated:

"The water source for the Warri-Effurun environ will be portable, safe and drinkable direct from home taps because it will be perfectly treated before distribution. This singular decision by the Okowa administration will create wealth and so many employment opportunities for Deltans."

"Lest I forget, water connection/distribution to homes will be done by prepaid rechargeable water meter cards just like you recharge your mobile phones."
