Contract awarded for reconstruction of Highway Project in USA

The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) has awarded Californian contractor Granite a US$48 million contract for reconstruction work on Highway 101 in Santa Barbara County, California, USA.

Under the Construction Manager/General Contractor (CMGC) contract, Granite is responsible for the reconstruction of a 10.9-mile stretch of Highway 101. Currently, work is underway on segments 4C and 4B, which are progressing as scheduled and are anticipated to be finished by 2023 and 2024, respectively. As part of the ongoing project several enhancements are being made, including the addition of a carpool lane in both directions. The contract awarded to Granite for this segment is a significant component of the overall project, valued at US$195 million. Specifically, this is the fourth mainline segment (4D North) that Granite has been assigned under its role as the construction manager and general contractor.

The project is planned to begin in June 2023 and is expected to be completed in June 2026.
