The Government of São Paulo in Brazil has resumed the works for contours of the Tamoios Highway (SP-99) in Caraguatatuba and São Sebastião. The construction works have started after almost three years of inactivity thanks to the agreement signed between the Government of Sao Paulo and the Tamoios Concessionaire. The resumption works are expected to cost BRL1.5 billion (US$284.58 million).

The agreement involves 46 works between bridges and viaducts, in addition to six sets of tunnels. The new road will be 33.9 km long, with increased road safety in a new logistical corridor to the Port of São Sebastião and the tourism hubs of the North Coast. The construction works are scheduled to be finished by the first quarter of 2022. Once complete, the road will facilitate logistics for agribusiness centers, steel production, machinery and equipment to the Port of São Sebastião.

The Caraguatatuba stretch towards Ubatuba, the first part of the project, will undergo new works of art complementation and paving interventions. This point is 80% complete. The deadline for full completion is the first quarter of 2022.

The second stretch, between Caraguatatuba and São Sebastião, now 60% completed, will receive access construction works to the Port of São Sebastião. Delivery is scheduled for the end of 2023. To speed up the pace, the works on the two stretches will be carried out on 17 simultaneous work fronts.
