The Management Authority of Urban Railways of Ho Chi Minh City (MAUR) has reported 90.91% completion of construction works for Ho Chi Minh City Metro Line 1 in Vietnam.
The 19.7 km long metro line will connect Ben Thanh to Suoi Tien. The metro line will have 14 stations and features a 2.6 km underground section and a 17.1 km elevated section. The construction works for the underground section running from Ben Thanh Station to the Opera House Station are expected to be completed in September 2022. Simultaneously, works on architectural construction, mechanical and electrical systems will be carried out for the elevated section of Ba Son Station to Binh Duong Province. The authority expects to start route testing by the end of 2022 and plans to begin operations in 2023.
The project investment value is US$2.5 billion, 83% of which is being provided by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) with the Ho Chi Minh City Government providing the remaining amount. Sumitomo and Cienco 6 are responsible for the elevated section of the metro line, while Shimizu and Maeda are responsible for construction works for the underground section. Nippon Koei Group is the main designer and consultant for the metro line.
