The Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC) of Paraguay has announced the construction progress of the Bioceánica bridge public-private partnership (PPP) project that connects the cities of Carmelo Peralta (Paraguay) and Puerto Murtinho (Brazil).

The bridge will have a total length of approximately 1,300 m divided into three sections. For construction, three groups were added for the execution of piers and upper walls of the abutment on the Paraguayan side, also maintaining the other fronts for the construction of heads and piles. It is also planned to begin construction of the first piles on the coast towards the Brazilian side. The installation of camps and the commissioning of the second concrete plant is underway. On the Paraguayan side, 113 piles have already been completed and are being used as the base of the bridge at varying depths of 33 to 43 m and embedded in a rock mass called shale.

Of the planned 300 piles, 74 with a diameter of 1 m and 15 with a diameter of 1.5 m have already been laid in the area of ​​the access overpass on the side of Paraguay and 24 piles in the area of ​​pylons with a diameter of 2 m, a total of 113 pile blocks, as well as 12 heads. Itaipu Binacional is fully funding the project with PYG 616.83 billion (US$81.95 million).
