Besix, the project owner for the Nachtigal dam concession, has achieved significant construction progress for the Nachtigal dam structure located on the Sanaga River. Besix is leader of consortium, which is made up of Nouvelles Générations d’Entrepreneurs (NGE Group) and Société Général des Travaux de Maroc (SGTM).
The project involves the construction of a 2 km long and 14-meter high dam with roller-compacted concrete along with a 3 km supply canal and seven 60MW turbines. The dam will have a cumulative capacity to produce 420MW via hydroelectric plant. The project is scheduled to be operational within 57 months.
The estimated investment value for the project is US$1.1 billion, out of which US$300 million were financed by World Bank. The project is being developed by Nachtigal Hydro Power Company, a consortium comprising EDF, State of Cameroon, and the International Finance Corporation.
