Construction contract for CAD2.5bn LRT project in Canada
A consortium contracted by the City of Ottawa to design, build and finance the Confederation Line East and West extensions (Light Rail Transit Stage 2) project in Ottawa, Ontario, has subcontracted Canadian company Bird Construction Inc. (Bird) for construction work on the project.
Bird will construct seven of the sixteen Confederation Line Stage 2 light rail transit stations and one light rail maintenance and storage facility.
The consortium East-West Connectors is a joint venture of Kiewit and Vinci.
The project involves the design, construction and financing of a 27.5km extension to the Confederation light rail line. The project will add 12.5km of new rail and 5 new stations in the east, extending the line from Blair Station to Trim Station, and 15 km of new rail and 11 new stations in the west, extending the line from Tunney’s Pasture Station to Moodie and Baseline station.
The Stage 2 Confederation Line East and West Extensions represent a significant advancement of commuter travel in the Greater Ottawa Area and is being funded by all three levels of government. Substantial Completion of the East Extension is expected in 2024 with the West Extension to achieve Substantial Completion in 2025.

The retendering process is initiated after two of three bidders have withdrawn their proposals from the procurement process. Contract Awarded for CAD 4.6 billion Canadian LRT
Infrastructure Ontario (IO) and Metrolinx have awarded a contract valued at CAD 4.6 billion (USD 3.5 billion) to Mobilinx Hurontario General Partnership (Mobilinx) for the Hurontario LRT. The contract requires Mobilinx to design, build, finance, operate and maintain the new transit project for a 30-year term. The project consists of 18 km of light rail transit serving the cities of Mississauga and Brampton in the suburbs of Toronto and featuring 19 stops.

RFQ for multibillion LRT project in Canada
The City of Calgary has issued a request for qualifications (RFQ) to private developers for the CAD 4.9 billion (USD 3.7 billion) Green Line stage 1 LRT project in Calgary. The Green Line will comprise a 20 km 14-station light rail transit (LRT) system.
