Ferrovial, through subsidiary Cintra has announced the opening of the US$3.7 billion I-66 Managed Lanes toll road in Virginia, the USA.
I-66 Managed Lanes toll road was created by Ferrovial Construction in partnership with Allan Myers. Cintra will operate and maintain Managed Lanes toll road under a 50-year concession. The 36-km road should relieve congestion, improve safety and provide more predictable travel times. The project involves the construction of two HOT lanes and three regular lanes in each direction and the installation of sensors and vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) communications systems for detecting and reporting situations of risk to traffic in real time.
The concessionaire is owned 55.7% by majority shareholder Ferrovial, while Meridiam is 29.7% and APG is 14.5%. The road was opened in accordance with the schedule.
