Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) has selected a joint venture of Fluor Corporation and Austin Bridge & Road to design, construct and maintain Phase 2 of the Interstate 35E (I-35E) project in the USA.
The project will have a total length of 6.3 miles and will cover the road from I-635 in Dallas to the Denton County line in Carrollton, Texas. The scope of works includes full reconstruction and expansion of six existing general-purpose lanes to eight general-purpose lanes with new auxiliary lanes at the entrance and exit ramps as well as the reconstruction of frontage roads along the corridor. In addition, it reconstructs the two existing, grandfathered reversible tolled managed lanes.
Terry Towle, group president of Fluor’s Urban Solutions business, said: "This is a great example of Fluor’s continued strategic focus on infrastructure projects in Texas. We’ve continuously worked with TxDOT for the past 20 years. Fluor is pleased to have the opportunity to continue building on its long history in Texas.”
Fluor will book its share of the approximately US$640 million contract value in the third quarter of 2021. Construction is planned to begin in late 2021 with the completion expected at the end of 2025.
