The state of Burkina Faso has signed a contract with Meridiam for a 30-year concession of the New International Airport of the country. Located 35 kilometres Northeast of the capital city Ouagadougou, the Donsin airport will be able to handle 1 million passengers per year once operational.
Meridium has partnered with Aéroport Marseille-Provence (AMP), which brings its expertise to the project through a technical assistance contract, for the development of a project with a total investment of more than EUR220 million (US$255.15 million). The concession contract covers the Design, Construction, Financing, Operation and Maintenance (DBFOM) of the new international airport. Planned to start at the end of 2022 after financial close, the engineering-construction works are estimated to last 30 months.
The new airport will replace the existing Ouagadougou-Taamsê International Airport, built in the 1960s and located in the densely populated city centre. The scope of works also includes the construction of drinking water pipelines (24 km), a new 7-km electric loop to connect the new airport to the public grid, as well as the installation of 130 kilometres of fibre optic.
