The initial 12.9 km section of Tianshui City tram line in Gansu province of China has started operations. The CNY 2.46 billion (USD 345 million) project is being implemented under a public-private partnership (PPP) model.
The project is being built by a consortium led by China Railway Signal & Communication (CRSC). Civil engineering works were performed by CRSC Construction Group. CRSC Shanghai Engineering Bureau Group installed the electrical and mechanical equipment. CRSC Wanquan Signal Equipment provided the train control system.
The project features a 20.2 km long tram line running from east to west alongside Wei River in Tianshui City. The line has 17 stops and it will connect Tianshui railway station and Jihe Beilu. The initial western section that started operation features 12 stops.
The line runs 17 five-car Pioneer light rail vehicles with 58 seats each. The capacity of each train is up to 370 passengers and the maximum speed of the train is 70km/h. The trains use onboard energy storage to run without overhead wires. The trains are equipped with audio information system. The stations and train cars feature CCTV various forms of paying such as QR codes, WeChat and Alipay. The Pioneer trams were built in CRSC Rail Vehicle factory.
